Learning Dutch
The Dutch Language is spoken by more than 22 million people as their first language and there are approximately 5 million people that speak Dutch as a second language. Dutch is spoken as a primary language in the Netherlands, Aruba, Belgium, Suriname, Indonesia, the Netherlands Antilles among other places. Afrikaans is considered to be derived from Dutch and is spoken in South Africa and Namibia. The similarity with Afrikaans is close enough that they are mutually understandable. There are spelling differences though. The Dutch Language Union coordinates linguistic policy.
