Learning Cherokee

We live near the Eastern Band of the Cherokee nation and in our visits there of course have noticed the unusual syllabary devised by Sequoyah.  Cherokee in their own toungue is pronounced Tsa-la-gi.

The written language is pretty to observe, it was influenced by the scripts that Sequoyah had seen.  They say that the syllabary was so well designed that the written language was easily learned (some within days/weeks.)

I currently only know a few words in Tsalagi, but would like to learn more and am glad to see online resources to help preserve the native tongue of the Cherokee.

Here are the resources we have collected on this site:

Cherokee Language Reading List

Here are a couple references not listed in subpages: 1st I’ve seen very good reviews of this Cherokee-English dictionary and cherokeepublications.net seems to be one of the best sources for Cherokee language publications. (I saw cassettes and CDs in the listing as well.) (Main link cherokeepublications.net.)
